As a leader in washing machine repair in Solihull, Birmingham and the surrounding area, A & A Appliance Care have an insider’s view of what’s most likely to go wrong with your washing machine. More often than not, the problems and break-downs we deal with could have been avoided with a regular schedule of maintenance and cleaning.
Here are five simple ways to keep your washing running better for longer:
1. Keep Your Washing Machine Clean
It may seem counter-intuitive, but even washing machines need to be cleaned from time to time. All that time spent washing your dirty clothes can build up in the machine over time, which can lead to foul odours and clothes not getting as clean as they used to. We recommend washing your washing machine once every six months. You can use a small amount of household vinegar to clean our machine.
2. Leave the Door (or Lid) Open
Mildew is another nasty agent to let build-up in your washing machine, as it can lead to odours and other problems. Leaving the door or lid open keeps fresh air cycling through the machine, and this is going to cut down on the build-up of mould or mildew.
3. Use the Right Amount of Detergent for Your Machine
Today’s high-efficiency (HE) washing machines require less detergent than older models, and it’s important to keep this in mind when washing your clothes. More isn’t always better when it comes to cleaning agents, as excess suds can lead to a film building up on the drum of your washing machine. Check the owner’s manual for your appliance for more information on what type of detergent to use, as using the wrong one could even void your warranty. That will make future washing machine repairs even more expensive.
4. Remove Clothes as Soon as the Load Is Finished
Letting wet, freshly laundered clothes sit in the washing machine is yet another way to contribute to the development of mould and mildew. Make a point of getting those clothes out as soon as possible, and don’t forget to leave the door ajar so that the drum can dry out.
5. Remove Clothes as Soon as the Load Is Finished
This requires a bit more care and attention, but keeping your drain pump filter clean will keep the appliance running better and more efficiently over time. Bits of soil, sediment, hairs and more will build up in the filter over time, meaning that the machine drains more slowly. It may start vibrating more than usual or spending more time on its final spin.
